“… All effort and exertion put forth by man from the fullness of his heart is worship, if it is prompted by the highest motives and the will to do service to humanity. This is worship: to serve mankind and to minister to the needs of the people.” – Abdu’l-Bahá

Devotional MeetingThe spiritual growth generated by individual devotions is reinforced by loving association among the friends in every locality, by worship as a community and by service to the Faith and to one's fellow human beings. When people from diverse backgrounds pray together, it creates bonds of love and fellowship and engenders an atmosphere free from prejudice, suspicion and aloofness.

Bahá’ís everywhere are engaged in local grass-root devotional gatherings. Without ritual or rite, the devotional gatherings in Malaysia are a common activity across the country where friends in local communities come together, inviting friends and neighbours to attend small prayer sessions. These gatherings are sometimes held in homes, sometimes in Bahá’í centres or more public venues, for the purpose of meditating, reading spiritual writings, and worshipping in creative and personally satisfying ways. They are open to all and are intended to embrace that attitude of prayer and practice of devotion that is universal to all religions.

The devotional gatherings, sometimes formal, sometimes informal, are simple and have a variety of elements to accommodate people of diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. For many these are often journeys taken together to explore the spiritual realm and for some have often become a refreshing refuge from the harsh and drudgery struggles in our daily life. Drawing on a variety of religious traditions, with extensive use of the words and tablets of the Bahá’í Holy Writings the Bahá’í devotional gatherings represent an experiment in universal worship and are open for all to experience.
