“O God! Educate these children. These children are the plants of Thine orchard, the flowers of Thy meadow, the roses of Thy garden. Let Thy rain fall upon them; let the sun of Reality shine upon them with Thy love. Let Thy breeze refresh them in order that they may be trained, grow and develop, and appear in the utmost beauty.”  – Abdu’l-Bahá

For Bahá’ís, moral education that focuses on the development of moral capacities in the child is fundamental to human happiness and allows those capacities for genuine and authentic human cooperation and citizenship to emerge in our children. The great emphasis on the spiritual development of children with a focus on providing ongoing opportunities for developing a sense of world citizenship and a lifelong commitment to serve humanity, is an integral part of the Bahá’í community life.

Children are the most precious resource a community has. The Bahá’í writings attach great importance to the periods of childhood and youth, providing clear guidance to parents and communities to raise children in a nurturing and unambiguous environment. The moral, spiritual, and values-based training for children and youth is essential in order to nurture the capacities of children to make positive responsible choices in life. Thus, Bahá'í communities sponsor moral education classes for children and youth of all backgrounds. The classes seek to develop essential virtues such as the knowledge of God, trustworthiness, honesty, and justice. They aim to build a strong moral framework that will assist children to achieve excellence in material, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of life. “Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value,” wrote Bahá’u’lláh. “Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.”

In accordance with that inspiration, Bahá’ís are working to bring forth these “gems” — the nobility and beauty that are part of every person’s inborn nature. The training they offer is a compelling response to the flood of messages that promote materialism and neglect the ideals of a healthy and prosperous society. The classes, offered in increasing numbers by Bahá’í communities, can help to ensure that our children grow strong intellectually, morally, and spiritually.

Regular children’s classes are held in Bahá’í communities in all localities in Malaysia. These classes tend to the spiritual needs of ALL the children in the community, regardless of their backgrounds and using well-proven systematic lessons that aim to develop their spiritual faculties and lay the foundations of a noble and upright character. Devoid of any sectarian or rigid approach, the classes employ methods that aim to awaken in children an understanding and love of those universal spiritual principles and moral teachings, convey a love of the arts and the utmost respect for science. Bahá’í children’s classes aspire to impart in children a love of humanity, in all its diversity, and a love of knowledge, both material and spiritual.
